Mercury Removal Unit (MRU) Profiling Study

HG Solution mercury removal units (MRU)Mercury removal units (MRU) are used to reduce the amount of total mercury in natural gas or hydrocarbon condensate to as low as reasonably possible. From an engineering point of view, this is t ensure the amount of mercury entering the downstream plants such as gas processing and LNG plants are at a level that will not damage certain plant equipments. Apart from “self generated amalgam corrosion”, mercury attacks may cause Liquid Metal Embrittlement (LME) to most aluminum based materials. This may result in the failure of these equipments subsequently leading to the lost of millions of dollars or even human lives. With this in mind, the constant exercise to ensure any installed MRU is functioning as intended is carried out periodically.

mercury removal unit equipmentsAt HG Solution Sdn Bhd we use a unique approach to evaluate the performance of any installed MRU. The study can be conducted on a “live” plant without the need to interfere with major process activities. We perform “high pressure” sampling and evaluate the results onsite so that our clients get immediate results of the performance of their installed MRU. The study is done to determine whether the bed is still in optimum condition or to identify if a “breakthrough” or “channeling” has occurred. The study period may range from 4 to 7 working days, depending on the size, complexity and other critical attributes of an MRU.
